ActionSprout, with Stripe integration, is a quick and effective way to receive donations through your actions on Facebook. In this guide we will teach you how to use ActionSprout and Stripe together to raise money on Facebook.
Let’s get started!
In this guide we will cover
- Setting up Stripe
- Automatic email
- Posting to Facebook
Setting up Stripe
To set up your Stripe account and begin accepting payments, follow these simple steps.
1. Click on the Settings tab and select Integrations.
2. Scroll down to Stripe and click Connect Stripe
3. Connect your Stripe account with ActionSprout. (You can create an account at Stripe.com if you don’t already have one). Stripe is a free service that only charges you when you receive a donation. You’ll need your organization’s Tax ID #, plus your bank account and routing numbers to complete the sign-up form.
(Once you have Stripe connected to ActionSprout, you can enable donations on any action. More on post action donation appeals.)
To create a donation action click on the Create Action pill button found inside your actions tab.
Then select Donate from the list
This will open the action creation screen where you will fill in your call to action, description and image.
At the bottom you’ll find a place to set up your donation form and buttons.
First select the donation buttons you’d like to display to donors. They will appear something like this once finished. Note: “other” will always be a default option.
Action takers now have the ability to donate entering their credit card information directly inside Facebook after taking an ActionSprout action.
Action exports will only contain information about the amounts a person donated as they complete the action. All other donation information will be stored in your Stripe account.
Please note: Stripe does allow for donation refunds and charge disputes from donors. Learn more.
Stripe is secure, fully encrypted and PCI compliant. ActionSprout never touches or stores credit card information. Learn more.
Sending an Automatic Thank-You Email
Inside the Auto Responders tab you will find the option to send an email to folks who have completed the action and donated to your cause. Simply toggle on Thank you email to active on this feature. (Please note that this feature is available with Pro plans only. More information can be found on our pricing page).
Enter the email message you would like your supports to receive into the form below, then click Save. Now when folks make a donation an email will automatically be sent to the email address they provided.
Posting to Facebook
When posting your donation action to Facebook we strongly suggest that you do so in the form of a link post. For the vast majority of organizations, link posts do a better job of driving more people to take action. Supporters prefer this format because when they click on the image of a link post, it takes them to the social action page where they can make their donation. All while staying inside of Facebook!
When you paste a URL into your status update box, Facebook creates a link post for you. A link post pulls the social action’s title, a portion of your description and the social action page image — all of which you can edit before posting. Simply click “Upload an Image” or click on the text you would like to change. Use the title to highlight the call to action again and ensure that your description is motivating and attention grabbing. Remember your post is competing for attention in the News Feed. Take advantage of these options to make it stand out as much as possible.
Now you’re ready to create your own donation action using ActionSprout and Stripe to start accepting donations. For best practices on how to craft an effective social fundraiser, visit our Donation Action Best Practices guide.
